A pair of gunmen on bicycles shot and wounded two boys, 14 and 16, as they stood outside in the South Shore neighborhood, police said.
Each of the boys was shot twice but their conditions were stabilized, one at Stroger Hospital and the other at Comer Children's Hospital.
The shooting happened around 10 p.m. Monday near the intersection of South Clyde Avenue and East 71st Street. The boys were standing outside when the shooters rode up on bicycles and opened fire, according to police.As police worked the crime scene, neighbors and shopkeepers watched from the corner of 71st and Clyde in front of the Dollar Station store. Among them was a 21-year-old man with blood on both sneakers who said he ran to help after hearing a burst of gunfire.
