Four people, including two Chicago police officers, were injured when a vehicle struck a squad car responding to a call Tuesday night in the South Side's Gresham neighborhood, authorities said.
About 9:30 p.m., a vehicle traveling west on West 79th Street struck the squad car traveling north on South Racine Avenue, Police News Affairs Officer Amina Greer said.
The squad car, its lights and sirens activated, was knocked on its side, Greer said.
Two officers were taken to Stroger Hospital with injuries that were not believed to be life-threatening.
The driver of the other vehicle, 34-year-old Kristy Jenkins, was taken to Little Company of Mary Hospital with minor injuries, Greer said.
Police cited Jenkins, who lives in the 7900 block of South Richmond Street, with failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, failure to reduce speed and damage to city property, Greer said.
A third vehicle stopped at a traffic light was sideswiped and its driver was taken to St. Bernard Hospital with minor injuries, Greer said.
