Charges were dropped today against an off-duty Chicago police officer accused of pinning down a female officer and touching her inappropriately at a party on the South Side last month to celebrate his third year with the department.
Prosecutors announced they were dropping counts of criminal sexual abuse and unlawful restraint against Juan Belmontes during a brief hearing before Judge Adam Bourgeois Jr.
Belamontes, 34, appeared in court in a light gray suit and tie. He declined to speak to reporters as he left the Leighton Criminal Court Building, but his attorney, Dan Herbert, said the officer looked forward to returning to his assignment as a patrol officer in the Englewood District.
