Lindblom Math and Science Academy will be closed Wednesday following the death of a student from bacterial meningitis, Chicago Public Schools officials announced late Tuesday.
A 16-year-old student was found dead at home on Monday, apparently of a form of meningitis that is not contagious, according to a CPS statement. School principal Alan Mather learned of the death today, and administrators promptly decided not to hold class on Wednesday, officials said.
"Our thoughts and prayers are with the family at this difficult time," CPS CEO Barbara Byrd-Bennett said in the statement. "There is no immediate health risk to students or staff, but out of an abundance of caution we decided to close the school tomorrow."
