UPDATE: HERE IS THE OFFICIAL MEMO
The Chicago Fire Department was informed on Friday that in the near future on-duty Chicago firefighters will be escorting school children on pre-determined routes both in the morning and after school. This would be due thanks to the CPS closing schools and forcing students to travel over different gang neighborhoods to get to their new school. Firefighters would be excused from the task if at a fire or on a medical run. The CFD was provided the preliminary routes and were then ordered to walk these routes and identify all abandoned buildings. Fire officials are not pleased and are concerned that they will be required to respond and perform actions that only armed police officers should be required to do.
