Gunman in standoff with police at New Jersey home

A gunman suspected of killing his wife was barricaded with two or three of his children inside a Trenton house in an armed standoff with police, New Jersey media reported on Friday.

The Times of Trenton cited two unidentified law enforcement sources as saying police officers checking on the house in Trenton discovered the partially decomposed body of the man's wife, but pulled back when they saw he had a gun.

Trenton Police Lieutenant Edelmiro Gonzalez confirmed to Reuters that officers responded to a well-being call about the house on Friday afternoon, and had encountered a man who barricaded himself inside. He did not provide further details.

The Trenton newspaper also reported that one of the man's children may have been killed and that he was holding two or three more children inside the home.

FBI Special Agent Barbara Woodruff said investigators were on the scene, but could provide no further details. New Jersey state police were also at the scene, a spokesman said.
